Product review: Que Bella clay mask

These Que Bella face masks retail at Target for just about $2. They come in a wide variety of types and purposes, from "relaxing lavender," "clarifying cucumber," to this intriguing "self-heating clay mask". I've tried a few of the other versions, but this one definitely caught my eye for being self-heating, so I decided to try it out. This particular masks claims to: "draw out impurities to leave radiant skin."

Right off the bat, I noticed that unlike a normal clay mask, this one is oily. When opened, you can actually see the oils that have separated from the "clay," and it's really quite difficult and futile to try and mix them before applying. It also has a very pale, fleshy tone that is pretty much transparent when spread over the skin; so I was a little surprised as I was expecting more of a muddy consistency.

This is what it looks like on the skin:

It's actually quite jelly-like, so spreading it across your skin takes a while. And immediately after it touches the skin it heats up. It feels nice at first, but the intensity of the heat doesn't last, which sucks. I sat with it on in the bath, and after about 10 or 15 minutes I could feel it melting (not sure if this is normal, because it was hardly steamy in the bathroom).

Overall, I thought it was nice just like any other mask - but nothing really special. There was nothing notable about the end result; it literally just felt like any mask out there. As for the claim of radiant skin, I wasn't really feeling it. The initial heat definitely felt like it did some work on clearing my pores a tad -  but there's no visibly clearer or more radiant skin.

A great mask for clearing pores a bit, but otherwise average.

How to style a leopard print top: day & night

styling a leopard top: day & night

How to style: Leopard print

So I love the idea of leopard print - but it's never the easiest thing to pull of. Unless you want to rock a loud outfit (someday I'll post about that), I'd say that in the world of leopard, it's easier to start off with tops. To keep your leopard print top the only statement, pair it with solids - but do play around with textures so that your pieces aren't fighting each other, but are keeping the outfit from falling flat.

Daytime:

For the daytime, you want to keep it laid back and appropriate. Definitely try high-waisted shorts and denim; I love the way a studded short looks coupled with the print. Of course to keep a nice flow I opted for black shorts - but any wash of denim would look nice as well. To balance, I like the way a denim vest looks over the top; for a little more color go with something pale. As for shoes, definitely keep it flat - I am loving studded ballet flats as well as combat boots! Jewelry for this look is pretty versatile, but here is where you can pack a color punch without competing with the print! Try bright earrings or rings; still you can never go wrong with leather!

Nighttime:

Here is where it gets really fun! For the nighttime I decided to go a little sexy and chose black leather skirts - both loose and fitted look great. Play up the glamour by keeping shoes & jacket bright red and the jewelry gold. Pull out your favorite red heels and find that perfect blazer. If you're going with a body con skirt, a peplum blazer will give the umph to your figure that really amps up the sexiness! This simple color palette keeps the outfit classy and super-chic all at the same time.

Over all, I'm so loving the way these different textures and shapes play with each other. If you've got any type of print statement in any outfit, the best way to keep it stylish but not loud is to mix textures & shapes but keep the colors solid and matching.

Hello! :D

BeautyShines <3

Why hello there, and welcome to my new beauty blog! No one is probably going to stumble across this blog, but I'm here to talk about nothing other than beauty! However, I'm not one of those barbie-doll guru's with a huge collection. I'm just your average young woman (:

About Me:

  • I'm currently in college :D
  • I LOVE to read to & write (you might be seeing some of that stuff here)
  • The internet is my hobby - I have multiple blogs and enjoy social networking very much
  • I was a varsity tennis girl ^.^
  • Definitely am a bargain shopper, but also a shopaholic haha
  • I'm also a HUGE Simmer! If you've never played the Sims, you must!
  • I do have a youtube channel under the same name (BeautyShines), however I'm not uploading currently :/ it has some videos though, go check it out!
  • I love fashion, makeup, and beauty - but most of time you can find me with my hair up and chillaxen in sweats :D

About This Blog:

My goals for this blog are not to be popular (because I'm not), to be noticed, or to gain any kind of fanbase or promote my YT channel. In fact my only goal here is to expand upon and satisfy my hobby of networking, by combining it with my love for fashion & makeup. Even if no one reads my blogs, I'll still be active because I'm here to enjoy posting. But of course, readers are always welcome and will be loved <3. I'll try not to post anything too personal on here, because I have 2 separate blogs for all of that! If you're interested in all of that, I've got both a LiveJournal for online journaling as well as a Tumblr:

Otherwise, most of what I post here will consist of:
  • Makeup :D
  • Fashion: not just your average outfits, but also themed trends, seasonal trend, outfits by occasion, even sporty fashion!
  • Anything cosmetic: hair, nails, and even shower stuff!
  • And of course, other hobbies common among us girls: I'll be posting about my current book, favorite shows, even a few games (assuming I'll ever save up for a console), exercise tips/routines, decorative ideas, DIYs, cooking, and other food stuff 'cause I love to eat :D

Well, that's it for now, but I'll be seeing you soon in future posts! Look out for more (:
